Making a difference about the impact of differences

Having been brought up in a multi-cultural family, being half Tamil Sri Lankan and half Dutch, I constantly realize how shifting perspective is pivotal in collaboration. It helps that I can also shift language as both English and Dutch are my mother tongue. In my day-to-day work and private life I experience the impact of diversity in the way I perceive my environment, and vice versa. This diversity includes, but is not limited to: nationality, language, culture, biological sex, gender identity, skin colour, religious affiliation, body size, and I could go on. In short, I could be perceived as a bold big brown woman - on a mission. It is a humbling experience to work with teams and individuals in the process of change. Together with participants I work on creating a deep understanding of the effect of differences is the foundation to innovative, creative and inclusive collaborations in a work environment. I've been working on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts for 7+ years and have started as independent facilitator, consultant, and trainer since 2020.

 Agility in Diversity Management

I am available to support inclusiveness and equity for you and/or your team in the work place. In this process, we reflect on the self and on the self in relation to others within an organizational culture and within change processes. Agility is crucial because there is no one-size-fits all approach in understanding individual needs for D&I. My portfolio includes: D&I scan of your organization, workshops on the impact of diversity, training on unconscious bias, and individual coaching to navigate differences.

Let's move beyond pointing out the differences that exist, by understanding what difference they make.

Organizations that know a diverse workforce and/or aim to increase diversity among their teams, will recognize that knowing that diversity exists doesn't equal the skills to navigate diversity in a comprehensive way. In my work, I prioritize understanding the presence of visible and invisible elements of diversity and what they mean for the way we interact. Diverse workforces come with a variety of norms, values, and behaviour - and most importantly - experience. It is up to us all to tap in to that variety as a resource for innovation and creativity. We can only do so by true, explicit, conversations about how diversity shapes us to who we are.
